SBA Subcontracting Opportunities Directory

Wouldn’t it be great to have a small business “Subcontracting Directory” that was affordable?  Well, how about Free!  Company Names, Contact Numbers, and Addresses.  There are people selling these lists for thousands.  Well I am giving them to you for Free.  Why?  Because they are free!  Well, except for the time and effort spent in research, finding, directing and getting the information out to you.  But this is just another way of saying thanks to members of our online community for supporting our efforts as advocates to the small business community.  So read on.  It costs you nothing.

Fact: When a large business receives a Federal contract over $500,000 ($1 million in construction), they are required to submit a subcontracting plan.  In other words, they are to describe how they intend to subcontract to various types of small businesses.  This is where you come in!  Have you marketed yourself to potential large firms?  They may not need your services right at this time, however when the opportunity arrives, wouldn’t it be great for them to have you on their list of potential subcontractors?  And the ground work would have already been laid with the relationship.

Yea right, you might say.  Sounds great, but where can one find firms who are looking for subcontractors?  Who are the contacts?  What are their names?  Phone numbers?  Email Addresses?

Very good questions: Have you heard of the SBA (of course you say)?  Do you know what a CMR is (Commercial Market Representative)?

Well, much of this information is provided “For Free” to you courtesy of your SBA (your tax dollars at work).  That’s right.  Much of this is available to you for free.  You just have do the leg work, follow through, and other marketing effort.  So read on my colleagues as I share what the SBA has available to you.

SBA Subcontracting Opportunities Directory - Disclaimer

SBA obtains the names and addresses for this listing from subcontracting plans that are submitted to the Government when a large business receives a Federal contract over $500,000 (over $1 million in construction). In some cases, the point-of-contact listed in the subcontracting plan changes after SBA adds the company to the directory. SBA is not automatically notified of such changes; and therefore, at any point in time, some of the information in this directory may be incorrect. SBA updates the directory on a regular basis and makes necessary changes when an incorrect listing is brought to its attention.

If you are a contractor that is listed in this directory, please verify that the company name, point-of-contact, phone number, and other information are all correct. If anything is incorrect, please contact your nearest Commercial Market Representative (CMR) using the hyperlink in the next paragraph and request the necessary changes.

Please note that SBA does not have the authority to require a prime contractor to use a particular small business. However, SBA’s CMRs counsel small businesses on how to market their products and services to the prime contractors in this directory. To find your nearest CMR click here.
